Canis Major CS 3 Bottle Pack
A Walk Down Memory Lane.
Winemaker Brenda Lynch has dug into her library cellar for this very special and limited production re-release selection of her Reserve Canis Major Cabernet Sauvignon. 2002 was the first vintage that Brenda secured Cabernet Sauvigon from the Perotti Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County. She has been getting her Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard block ever since.
I have always loved the quality and character of Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon - ripe dark berry fruit, full and rich tannins - paired with French oak barrels. The Perotti Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has a purity of berry fruit flavors and aromas that have always been its "signature" character. Soft, plush tanninss have also been a core part of this wine. French oak has always contributed smoky, toasty notes along with vanilla and caramel. Full and lush when young, I am pleased when the wines show very well with age.
Tasting Notes - May 11, 2020
2002 Vintage: The lightest of the three vintages, showing medium bodied, aged "claret style" flavors and aromas. Dried fruit and herbs, soft tannins but wonderful acidity that continues to add freshness.
2003 Vintage: The boldest of the three vintages, showing deeper color and very nice smoky, toasty oak character. I purchased new Bel Air French oak barrels in this vintage and it showcases this oak's beautiful flavors and tannins.
2004 Vintage: The sweetest of the three vintages. I find it amazing that a 16 year old Cabernet Sauvignon can still have sweet, jammy fruit. This beautiful fruit is followed by gritty tannins and plum, dried fig and spice flavors that give it a full bodied flavor and finish
