2013 "mbf" Primitivo

Our 2013 expression of this ancient varietal is a fitting tribute. Think black currants, blackberries and cherries. Well-balanced and smooth on the palate.

Speedy Creek Vineyard.  I first hiked the Speedy Creek Vineyard in Knights Valley with owner Dave Burton in 2008.  Speedy Creek refers to the 'speed' of their seasonal winter creek as it cascades down alongside their hillside vineyard.  Dave's Primitivo grapes have an intensity of character reflective of this true hillside terroir.

Brenda's Winemaking.  2013 is our fifth vintage of Primitivo and our wnemaking approach remains consistent--gentle handling and oak aging. Fermentation took place in an open top tank, with 3 times per day punch-downs. The wine was barreled down and malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels for 18 months, with approximately 30% new Francois Freres barrels.

I'm not much of a fan of wine, YET, but a friend sent me the 2010 Primitivo and it was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!! I waited unless May of this year 2016 to open it, while on vacation in LA, because I wanted to share it with her, as she lives in LA and I live in SA, and we both liked it. It wasn't until I got back to SA that I had my second glass of it and as I said it was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!
