2012 Portrait of a Mutt Red Wine
Portrait of a Mutt is the perfect name for our Red Wine, as it blends spicy Carignane fruit into our jammy Zinfandel. As the label says, “Just because I’m not pedigreed doesn’t mean I’m not a good dog!”
Always a blend, thus a “mutt”. Our 2012 "Portrait of a Mutt" is a most worthy "mutt" indeed. Blended from a combination of Zinfandel, Merlot, Carignane and Petite Sirah, this release continues our homage to California's early history, when fruit-forward wines were made by Italian immigrants using a field mix blend of various grapes from their vineyard with Zinfandel at the core. Our "Portrait" showcases the sweet berry and spice qualities of the Zin, the red cherry fruit components of the other varietals and an overall firm structure and lovely mouthfeel. We salute all the "mutts" that combine the best of many breeds!
The 2012 Portrait of a Mutt is a red blend that uses each varietal to its best advantage. Aromas of ripe raspberry and toast are echoed in the fruit-forward palate that is reminiscent of a warm berry pie. This medium-bodied wine has a silky mouthfeel with some chewy tannins and granite-like mineral notes on the finish.
Food Pairing Notes
This is a food-friendly wine that will pair well with a variety of dishes but we think it would make a great companion to your favorite lasagna recipe. Arf!
