2007 Portrait of a Mutt Zinfandel

2007 Portrait of a Mutt Zinfandel

Rated "Exceptional" in Dan Berger's Vintage Experience

Portrait of a Mutt is the perfect name for our Zinfandel, as it blends spicy Carignane fruit into our jammy Zinfandel. As the label says, “Just because I’m not pedigreed doesn’t mean I’m not a good dog!”

Mutt... every dog will have his day!

Always a blend, thus a “mutt”.  We have always enjoyed the style of Zinfandel red wine modeled after California’s early history - fruit forward wines made by Italian immigrants that used a field mix blend of various grapes from their vineyard, with Zinfandel at the core.  The other ‘field mix’ varietals used have flavors and structure that play off of the sweet berry qualities of Zinfandel.  Our favorite is Carignane.  When combined with Zinfandel, it can accentuate the sweet berry qualities of Zin with spicy, red cherry fruit flavors.  Thus was born our Portrait of a Mutt Zinfandel.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes Wonderful aromas of black and red fruits (raspberry, blackberry and cherry - take your pick) are followed by Zinfandel’s signature ripe jammy flavors and supple finish. The ‘mutt’ shows itself in the finish where cleansing acidity gives the wine a wonderful freshness and drinkability.

Seriously? I'm the first to review? I love this wine -- you guys were generous to donate some for an animal fundraiser I was involved with, and the next two cases I ordered went down very well at the remainder of my summer parties! I am just ordering the next cases for fall and winter....really a perfect wine for all seasons and reasons....thanks!

Found this wine at a wine tasting at The Rowe in northern MI. Was thrilled with the great wine at a great price, and of course being animal lovers (with a handsome mutt of our own) we had to have it! We will definitey buy more to have on hand and to give all of our animal/wine loving friends. Thanks!

I bid on this wine and won the bid a few days ago at a fundraiser. My husband and I had it last night with dinner (and then after dinner, which I normally never do!) It was delicious! I totally recommend it!

Amazing depth ... delicious! I bought 2007 in Denver and -- wrongly -- assumed that the "poor schnook" local distributor had "lost" a case or two in some poorly lighted corner of the warehouse. How is it that 2007 remains?
